54 or 64 Browns.
54 - Cleveland held its opponents to an average of 13 points a game as its defense became the first in NFL history to lead the league in scoring, rushing, and passing defense. The Browns then held the Lions to only 10 points in a championship game beatdown.
64 - Finished: Beat Baltimore Colts 27-0 in the NFL Championship Game. Regular Season Record: 10-3-1. This Browns squad won a title with an epic upset of the Colts. Johnny Unitas and company were 12-2 and seven-point favorites over Cleveland but were no match for the Browns at home. Cleveland held the Colts to less than 200 yards of offense and overwhelmed them on the ground and in the air.

I'm a 49er fan and when this topic comes up I always say that you cannot judge from one era to another. Too much changes ,rules, the demands on the QB, the size and ability of the players which is why as much as we love these teams they would be hard pressed to deal with modern teams at all. 260 lb backers simply didn't run like that back then and they now have receivers who would of passed for defensive ends back then. I don't think that is all "natural" but there are just too many differences. Of course modern teams don't have the Bullet Bob Hayes either. They just have people that would hit him , send him out of the game and take the flag.
On the other hand I would love to see what Montana and Marino would of done with these "flag football for the QB" rules.

I disagree. You are thinking modern-era NFL when they split 26 teams into two conferences. I disagree that there was a much lower level talent, in fact I think it was a higher level of talent b/c there was less specialization. They were playing talent levels against the same talent levels -- with none of these mamby-bamby rules.
