Resisting arrest is not supposed to be license for murder. Also note that cops ALWAYS say victims resisted arrest, even if they aren't resisting. They know it gives them some sort of sick justification. Even when a man is standing still with his hands on his head, not resisting, a cop will come up behind them, kick them and then use the reaction to claim resistance. And then charge them for resisting arrest. Here's video of that: https://www.reddit.com/r/iamatotalpi...ks_man_during/

$#@! your justifications and your weak-kneed arguments in advance. This happens all over the country, all the time and it's sickening. If you don't find fault with this, if you find yourself NEEDING to somehow excuse this, you are sick and demented.

So, read the news story, read what the cops said, and watch the video. Go on about your lives thinking it's no big deal.

This appears (to me) to be an incident where the cop is very likely at fault for the man's death. I hope the cop is charged, but I also want to know why other officers on the scene didn't do anything to make him stop.

On the kicking one: There is an ongoing investigation. There will be charges, I bet.
On the knee one: I suspect there will be charges.

According to the Bureau of Justice, about 62.9 million people had contact with the police in 2011 (the most recent year available). About half of those were police initiated. Nearly half (49%) of persons experiencing contact with police, the most recent contact was involuntary or police-initiated. In 2011, 86% of persons involved in traffic stops during their most recent contact with police and 66% of persons involved in street stops (i.e., stopped in public but not in a moving vehicle) believed that the police both behaved properly and treated them with respect during the contact. A greater percentage of persons involved in street stops (25%) than those pulled over in traffic stops (10%) believed the police had not behaved properly.

Regardless of the reason for the stop, less than 5% of persons who believed the police had not behaved properly filed a complaint.

I didn't say no big deal. I did say that I was not going to make judgement on edited videos. The media has led us to false conclusions too many times.
If the cause of death was blocking the air passage/suffocation then that would have been delayed. He was breathing when they picked him up and put him in the ambulance.

The cops were not killing him on a crowded side walk while knowingly being filmed so the claim is confusing at best.
You are going to feel foolish if you learn this guy swallowed his heroin before he was pulled over.
In the end I also may agree with you as well.

I feel much differently about the Arbery death after seeing the full video than I did off of the media hit piece that was heavily edited. I still have many questions about that one also.

So what was the cause of death?

You know, that's a good question and it relates to a thought I had earlier this morning (I do have them on occasion. )

If I were to guess, and this is only the guess of a total outside observer, it probably has to do with internal politics. There is probably weighing of office politicks in decisions like this on the street, and it's probably better to just let bad behavior go.

I also wonder how much women on the force have to do with this kind of thing. Could be jealousy or some untoward female sexual politicking going on. I'm sure that must go on, and I don't suppose it often finds outlet except on the job.

I have never agreed with women in military combat service or as cops. It's just asking for all kinds of trouble.

The FBI has been called in to investigate. According to the police spokesperson, the knee on the neck is "not a department-authorized chokehold." http://www.citypages.com/news/man-wh...tody/570764991

Common is desperate to deflect from the thuggish subculture that has emerged within police departments all over the country. Probably because he was guilty of it himself.

How many innocent people did Common arrest or jail throughout his long career? How many lives were needlessly ruined by his enforcement of unjust laws? If only we knew...

Because there is a thuggish subculture among police forces that is tolerated and even encouraged by policing institutions. It's as simple as that.
