    The haughtiness of some doctors

This morning, my wife called the SurgiCenter (where I am scheduled to have surgery on my thumb tomorrow--it has trigger finger) to see if the surgery is still on.

She was told that it is--but that it has been changed from 12:00 noon to 9:00 AM--and that I should show up at 7:30.

Well, I (somewhat reluctantly) will be there tomorrow; but I called back this lady, and made it a point that I am never again to be moved around, like a pawn on a chess board. (If the doctor has some cancellations, and cannot see me at that time, it is okay to cancel me altogether--but not to move me around.

This has really ticked me off!

I do not live for the purpose of making things more convenient for the doctors in my life.

And I emphatically do not consider myself subordinate to those doctors--in any way, whatsoever.

If I have to find new doctors and a new hospital in the future, I am fine with that.

But I will never again have a doctor acting like I need him more than he needs me. (If he really does not especially need me, then we should part ways. Immediately, if not sooner, as the old saying goes.)

Screw them. You and your insurer is paying them. They work for you. Not the other way around.

People put doctors on a pedestal. They do the same with lawyers. Most take it in stride and do their jobs well and don't let their egos take control. Some however, do let it go to their heads and they tend to forget they are working for their client, not the other way around.

I view them the same way I do my vehicle mechanic or my plumber or my electrician. They are skilled tradesmen who provide an important service I am not trained to do myself, but that is all they are.

They didn't call you in advance to inform you of the change?

That is normal. Many conflicts come up with emergencies for medical staff and services like anesthesiologists are mostly contracted through 3rd parties now because of liability. They do not schedule them until the last minute because they have to go with the emergencies.
You will hear people that are going for colonoscopies yell the loudest, when they flush, fast and go in at 6 AM only to realize they are rescheduled for 3 PM and they can't eat or even drink much water.

They put lawyers on a pedestal? Where? I am going to move there...

If they did that to me I would walk out and never go to that doctor again.

You would go through a lot of doctors because it is the hospital that does the contracting and an emergency is going to be pushed in front of you for surgery.
