For espionage and terminal intrusion on the privacy of individuals -- and on a mass scale, being probably every person on the planet, AI is perfect. It is cheap, easy to make and unobtrusive. Its main contest should be viewed as that of an enemy. Everything else about AI is just flame to moths. "Success" or "failure" as you probably think of it, doesn't really matter. It will redefine our sense of morality and purpose from what it is now to something other than human, and not in a good way. It doesn't have to be "smarter" than we are. It will defeat us long before it gets to that point.
We will not know God.
IMHO, it is evil, and so it is evil to which man aspires, and he is attaining it. When he supplants the devil, what will you have?
