Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

There are a lot of good ones.
What size?

My roommate would know. I bought the Ruger GP100 .357 magnum for him and he seemed excited. I think the shorter barrel (2") is better for concealed carry according to him (makes sense) as opposed to the 6". You can use two types of ammo, also (might actually be three - would have to ask).
Also, I had no idea that Taurus is probably the cheaper option but still high quality. I narrowed my search down to Ruger and S&W before getting outside opinions.

Have several. Including the Ruger GP100 mentioned above. (Nice/quality revolver. Has a little size to it.)
Personal favorite is a S&W model 60 stainless. 5-shot. .357/38. J-frame. Light weight and easily gripped by large or small hand.

Revolvers are like anything else. There is no "One size fits all". Figure out what you want to do with it.
I have 2", 3", and 4" revolvers in .38. .357, .45 ACP, and .44 Magnum. They all serve different purposes. If I am out in bear country, I carry the 4" .44 Magnum. My home defense gun is a 4" .357. If I am going to carry a revolver concealed, I carry a 3" .38. Different guns, different uses.

Only one.
Ruger Security Six. 4 or 6 inch barrel.
The current Ruger GP-100 is very similar.
Avoid those short barreled (under 4 inches) boomers. You will not be able to hit anything beyond living room distances and the muzzle blast and noise is deafening. This is why you see so many of them on the used market. Buy once, cry once.
.357 Magnum caliber, but you can shoot the milder 38 Special in it too.
Easy to break down and clean, and is very rugged and accurate.
Just replace the factory grips with noeprene Pachmyer grips and you will never look back.
The grips pictured are Hogue grips that I took off and still have.

It only shoots two types of ammo. The .357 magnum and the .38 Special.
The other types it " might " shoot are older hand hard to find anyway.
.38 long Colt
.38 short colt.
but the .38 Smith & Wesson is a bit too fat to fit in the cylinder.
but the .38 Smith & Wesson SPECIAL is the same thing as the .38 Special.
It gets weirder as you delve into it.

At the turn of the century some ammo makers started using smokeless powder instead of black powder in their ammo.
The old black powder ammo was called 38/40, or 45/70 meaning 38 caliber, (which was really a 40 caliber) and 40 grains of black powder.
Then when they switched to making some of them with smokeless powder they started calling them " Special ".
American calibers are a huge mess of confusion with names and caliber designations. A big mess. No standards at all.
The .357 Magnum's bullet (slug) is a true .357 diameter....but so is the .38 Special's bullet. That is why you can shoot both in the same gun. The .357 is only 1/10 of an inch longer in case length.
...but the .44 magnum is a .429 (43 ) caliber.

You could invent the 45 Adelaide tomorrow and no one would blink an eye.

The Security Six is one of the best revolvers ever built. I have 9 revolvers in different calibers and barrel lengths and my 4" stainless Security Six is hands down my favorite. I bought it in 1977 and will never get rid of it. They are incredibly strong and durable. The only part I have ever replaced is the grips. I put a set of Hogues on it.
