Under the Mexican Constitution of 1824 women had equal rights as men.
That is why us Tejanos got so mad at dictator Santa Anna when he tore up the 1824 Constitution.
This is why the flag flying over the Alamo was a Mexican flag with 1824 in the center where the eagle normally goes.
We Tejanos were fighting for our rights as loyal Mexican citizens.
It was not till a bit later it was officially for independence.

If you dig back far enough we probably all do. My grandparents came from Sicily in the 1890's. I am sure I have some direct relatives still over there but I doubt we have much in common other than a love for pasta!
