    Cat Owners....Be Aware of This...

Just had to put down my 12 year companion, a beautiful Maine Coon female, Maya. She lost control of her rear legs and could barely move after a few days. She went from robust to very poor quality of life very quickly. It is called "Saddle Embolism" (Google it) and is when the heart throws a clot that ends up blocking blood to one or both legs. No blood, no oxygen, no Bueno. I'd put her on the bed, she would cry and put a paw on my arm.

We both knew it was time. I'm so heartbroken...

I'm very sorry for your loss Lazarus. Their lives are already too short and to lose one's friend prematurely is even more heartbreaking.

I'm very sorry. There are few things as heartbreaking as losing a pet.

I'm sorry, Laz. We had a beautiful little tuxedo cat named Kolinda about eight years ago who suffered the same ailment. The vet could find no obvious cause and was unable to offer any hope for treatment. Knowing and remembering that we gave them the best lives we possibly could and made them happy while we had the chance softens the blow - but as you are well aware it hurts like hell just the same.

It's so difficult to lose a loved one, whether it has two legs or four legs. I'm so sorry you're dealing with the grief and disbelief right now. (((hugs)))

It is hard to kill a loved pet. But it is our responsibility no matter how hard it is. I am sorry. We love our animals, sometimes more than we love other people.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was a kid. Except he was just a kitten. The first cat my parents let me get myself and it happened just a few days after I got him.. I named him Sneakers because he was all black with white paws. I was crushed.
