A National Security Council spokesman declined to comment on any connection between the Marines’ deaths and the suspected Russian plot. The White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, did not answer when pressed by reporters on Monday whether the intelligence was included in the written President’s Daily Brief, and the security council spokesman pointed to her comments when asked later about the February written briefing."

Top officials in the White House were aware in early 2019 of classified intelligence indicating Russia was secretly offering bounties to the Taliban for the deaths of Americans, a full year earlier than has been previously reported, according to U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the intelligence.

The assessment was included in at least one of President Donald Trump’s written daily intelligence briefings at the time, according to the officials. Then-national security adviser John Bolton also told colleagues he briefed Trump on the intelligence assessment in March 2019.

Bounties for US troops are not new. During Desert Shield, Saddam offered a bounty for any 82nd paratrooper captured. In the current Iraq adventure, al Qaeda use to pay locals to lob mortar rounds at us and to plant IEDs.

Written debriefings are a walk back for the NYT from their first article from last Friday. Even more, this second article makes it more clear that this intel was raw and unverified. It acknowledges that the evidence was unclear and that some did not think the Russians were involved.

But the "media" is using this story as if it were verified / solid evidence. It isn't. But it doesn't matter. If some dolts vote something other than Trump over these shady stories then the "media" is happy.
