    Strange power outage

At least the condos on my street all had power out to half of their units from around 8pm until 4am this morning. The power outage affected my bedrooms, AC, master bath, loft, hallway to the bedrooms and oven. The guest bath, living room, dining room, kitchen (except oven), and I assume washer and dryer worked. At least the fridge had power. The AC was out, and because of where the components are located, the Internet was out.

What would cause at least several buildings to have a partial power outage? The neighbors that I talked to had the same pattern of outage in their units.

If the energy companies website is accurate, 157 accounts were affected.

Especially high usage on a secondary line is sometimes responsible. Fairly unusual for a modern system.

You live near DC. I bet it was Trump transferring materials to Putin via the interweb. You know the electrical energy that takes. It's that simple.

Where I lived in Jersey the power would go out in my house and I would look out the windown and the houses across the street all had power and id look to the left and all those would have power..

But my side of the street and to the right would lose power...never for too long from 10 to 40 minutes.
I called a few times to try and get an explanation as to why this happens..and never got a straight answer.. Oh it was a truck hit lines...Oh it was lightening... a capaciter blew up

I said how can it be every disaster that loses power is only on my side of the street then...I dont know sir

The little town I call home has it's own electrical utility and it has a nationwide reputation for "how to operate" a small utility. We have attained and maintained a "diamond" status for reliability. I rarely lose electric, although a year ago a drunk couple slammed into my pole. It took two crews about 8 hours to totally restore power. In less than an hour, only nine customers out of 157 affected, still didn't have power.

Our community has underground lines, but the lines coming in are above ground. One pole got hit over and over by drunks (near a place people U-turn). The county finally got smart and moved it.

Buried lines are a mixed bag. Unlike above ground lines, the underground lines can be tough to work on. They're also three or four times as expensive to install. Our line guys like the above ground stuff. Often yo can see the problem and get a better idea what needs done. Our biggest problem, along with many communities, are squirrels. They, like "Mikey", will eat anything to sharpen their teeth.

Our condo association paid for the underground lines. We have much better service now.

We do have lots of squirrels.
