Most states allow you to maintain your safety on your property. The deal is when you shoot them in the back or as they are leaving. And how are the property owners to know who will break ranks and start attacking the homeowners?
It is not illegal to send a loud message to trespassers, otherwise. Showing the willingness to protect your property is not illegal.

If you break down the gate to gated community that in itself represents violent intent
Protesting is standing OUTSIDE the gate since you were not invited and Protesting...if someone points a gun when they are outside the gate protesting they need to be arrested..
Once they broke down the gate and headed towards peoples property they have every right to let them know UHUH not here your not....this will be interesting to watch...I dont know missouri law so I can predict no outcome

Missouri has a Castle Doctrine so they would be within their rights to use the firearms since the protesters were on private property but only if they had an actual threat. They did not fire on the protesters so it comes down to brandishing a firearm on private property considering their property was being violated.
When Donald Trump said to protest “peacefully”, he meant violence.
When he told protesters to “go home”, he meant stay for an insurrection.
And when he told Brad Raffensperger to implement “whatever the correct legal remedy is”, he meant fraud.
