NBA plans to paint 'Black Lives Matter' on court when games resume, could allow social justice messaging on jerseys
The National Basketball Association plans to paint “Black Lives Matter” on courts in Orlando, Florida, at the Walt Disney World Resort when the league resumes games in late July.
Sources within the league say both sidelines in all three arenas included in the NBA’s restart plan will be painted with “Black Lives Matter” in response to the protests that have broken out across the country following the death of George Floyd, according to ESPN.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul, who heads up the National Basketball Players Association, said earlier this week that the players' union is coordinating a plan with the league to allow players to place social justice messaging on the back of their jerseys instead of their last names.
"We're just trying to continue to shed light on the different social justice issues that guys around our league continue to talk about day in and day out," Paul said. "People are saying that social justice will be off of everybody's mind in Orlando. With these jerseys, it doesn't go away.".....snip~
