Glenn Cunningham had all the flesh burnt off his legs as a young boy. He had to teach himself how to walk again. He tied broomsticks to his legs to act as braces.

He went on to be one of the greatest American middle distance runners. At one time he held the world record in the mile and half mile runs.

A friend of mine owns a fly fishing operation in Montana. It was a Friday night and he told me, "you want to be see something absolutely incredible". I said ok.

We went to a high school basketball game. It was an exclusively Native American school. The kids on the team were average sized kids. No one was what I would consider tall. The game started and these kids ran the floor at a full sprint. Handling the ball like the Harlem Globe Trotters except no traveling or double dribble.

They would execute blind behind the back passes. Dribble with either hand at a full sprint and throw out the most incredible "alley-oop" slam dunks I've ever seen. Plus they can play defense. I stood the whole game cheering. The locals thought I was crazy. They're used to seeing that

I asked my friend, why aren't these kids recruited and playing for colleges in a major conference. He said that half of them can barely read and the ones who can just don't care. They'd rather stay at home on the Rez smoking weed.

My buddy told me it's the same in football and baseball. They don't look at it as anything special.

    That’s incredible.

He didn't set records, he obliterated them. Much like Babe Ruth he so dominated his era as to deserve a spot in conversations like this. Ruth may have hit 3-5 x the number od homers that the dude in second place did in a given year.
