The next president will have a lot to do, hoping he can fix it and hoping Trump doesn't do any more damage for the next four months. The next president needs to first heal the nation and the world. Repair the alliances and partnerships that Trump has undermined Europe, Asia and North America. These nations are an asset not a liability. Publicly disavowing in both word and deed the gratuitous insults and humiliations. Reestablishing trust will take more time and concerted effort.

He then must reestablish partnerships in the Middle East. He then must try to re-establish relationships with international organizations like the United Nations and World Trade Organization. Re-enter the Paris Climate Change Agreement. Reforming the WTO to address unfair trade policies by China. Formulate a coherent strategy towards China.

All of these are necessary steps to healing the wounds of Trump's presidency, but they will be insufficient to restoring American global leadership in the
absence of a convincing vision for America's role in the world.

Then the new President must regain law and order. Understand the problems of our own people and put vigorous plans in place.

There is a lot to do and I don't know if the new President will be able to do it, we can only hope so.
