Before Game 2 of the 2001 World Series in Phoenix, they had Ray Charles with his piano out on the field to play 'America the Beautiful'. This was six weeks after 9-11 and there were flags and color guards from all the Services there on the field, as well. We were sitting along the third base line and so got a fairly closeup view. At one point Ray said something like "I wish I had someone to sing this song with me" and the crowd joined in. Inspirational isn't a strong enough word.
On the way home I was listening to a call-in sports talk radio show and some total doofus called in to complain that he'd "almost walked out when they played 'that other song' instead of the Star Spangled Banner".

I don't have a problem with them playing the Black National Anthem, but it does raise a few questions:
1) How does this promote unity?
2) So the athletes are going to stand respectfully for the black national anthem, then they're going to kneel in protest of the regular national anthem?
3) If this is the black national anthem, does that mean the Star Spangled Banner is the white national anthem?
4) If someone kneels for the black national anthem, is anyone going to be offended?

I didn't think so, I'm sure they will, of course not, yes for sure.
No one's going to kneel for the BNA, and if they did they would likely be tossed out as a racist.
Honestly, there's not really a reason to kneel for the BNA anyway. But I wonder if they would then know what it feels like, and realize why kneeling for the national anthem is offensive to some. Because they keep saying no one has any right to be offended because it's supposedly not about the flag anyway, which is a lie - or to give the benefit of the doubt, an error.
