Now Iran is bragging about new 'missile cities.'

In the Iranian rhetoric playbook, every failure must be met with an equal and opposite claim to some form of success. The failure of Iran to protect critical infrastructure, as well as a series of explosions at a missile factory and nuclear site over the last week and a half, led Tehran to point to new “missile cities” as part of its arsenal that makes it a “nightmare” for enemies. What is a “missile city” and why is Iran talking about this now?

The comments were made Sunday by Brig.-Gen. Alireza Tangsiri, who said that Iran has “underground cities which house vessels and missiles.” The entire shoreline of southern Iran has these weapons, he asserted. Most of these weapons systems are in the hands of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, not the regular Iranian Navy. They consist of various marine forces, including units of the Basij, the reports in Iranian state media claim. They include 428 flotillas along 2,200 km. of coastline. The systems are concentrated at key areas along the Persian Gulf and facing the Gulf of Oman.

Iran has carried out tests in the past with these fleets of fast boats and its missiles. Overall, the program appears linked to comments made in October 2019 by Ali Hajizadeh of the IRGC aerospace force about various underground missile sites. The missile “cities” on the coast have been constructed on the shoreline or in facilities off the coast on islands and other areas. The full details of how they are run and whether the IRGC Navy or Aerospace elements run them is not clear.

The bragging about the “missile cities” comes in the wake of a mid-June test of an Iranian cruise missile that was fired out to sea, which supposedly has a range of 280 km. Iran also said in April it had increased the range of its naval missiles to 700 km.

However, Iran shot a missile in May that mistakenly hit one of its own ships, killing more than a dozen sailors.

They could find a way to blame Trump for this. They could claim that this is a result of Trump withdrawing the US from that foolish Iran nuclear agreement.

Another explosion. This time in the capital.

Another deadly explosion was heard in western Tehran on Friday, according to local reports of a blast at a missile warehouse.

However, sources claim there have been more than one in multiple regions. An intelligence official told The New York Times said that Israel was possibly behind the attack.

This has not yet been confirmed.
I wonder why Iran has not ordered Hezbollah to start firing missiles into Israel.

This is fascinating, thus the media won't cover it. Great find Pete.

Another explosion or fire at an Iranian nuclear facility. These aren’t aren’t accidents. Israel couldn’t be responsible for this on their own. I believe this is a covert US / Israeli operation.

    The Undeclared War Against Iran

I am surprised Iran has not unleashed Hezbollah yet. It indicates they know they are in the weaker position.

Aseries of violent attacks, involving explosions and fires, has been hitting Iran. The incidents have been too frequent and intense to be random accidents. They are part of an organized effort. Caution is always advisable in attributing responsibility for such unclaimed acts, especially for all of us outside the government channels that possibly have better information about what is going on. But circumstances point strongly, as some mainstream press reporting reflects, to either or both of two suspects: the Netanyahu government in Israel, and the Trump administration in the United States.

Both of those suspects have track records that point that same way. The most conspicuous relevant act by the Trump administration was its assassination in January, with a drone-fired missile at the Baghdad airport, of Qassim Suleimani, one of the most prominent political and military figures in Iran. The Israeli record of aggressive acts against Iran has included a series of assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists. Those murders were part of a larger, longstanding Israeli campaign of assassinations throughout the Middle East. That campaign is in turn part of an even larger Israeli record of aggressive acts throughout the region—including, over the past couple of years, scores of aerial attacks in Syria.

Neither the Israeli government nor the Trump administration has formally declared war against Iran, but the rhetoric of each has stopped only slightly short of such a declaration. The Trump administration has made clear its intention to inflict as much pain as possible on Iran, including with, but not limited to, economic sanctions. The Netanyahu government’s voluminous rhetoric on Iran has been every bit as hostile as what has come out of Washington, or as what has come in the opposite direction from Tehran.

Make no mistake about what is going on. This is not a set of actions “short of war,” as some people have described it. It is war. We certainly should worry about the conflict escalating into something so big that everyone will describe it as a war. But that does not make what already has transpired anything less than acts of war.

More mayhem in Iran. And still not Iranian response.

An explosion was reported in an oil pipeline in Iran Saturday, the latest in a mysterious series of blasts and blazes that have occurred throughout the country.

Several of the recent disasters have struck sensitive Iranian sites, leading to speculation that they could be part of a sabotage campaign engineered by Israel or another Tehran foe.

The latest incident occurred in a pipeline in the Ahvaz region in the south of the country, according to reports in local and social media.
