France Calls For Intervention in Syria.....

    http://news.yahoo.com/turkeys-gul-sy...104235427.html
    Reuters – 45 mins ago.....

AMMAN/PARIS (Reuters) - France called on Wednesday for a "secured zone to protect civilians" in Syria, the first time a major Western power has suggested international intervention on the ground in the eight-month uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

Foreign Minister Alain Juppe also described Syria's exiled opposition National Council as "the legitimate partner with which we want to work," the biggest international endorsement yet for a nascent opposition body that seeks to overthrow Assad.

Asked at a news conference after meeting the SNC president if a humanitarian corridor was an option for Syria, Juppe ruled out military intervention to create a "buffer zone" in northern Syria but suggested a "secured zone" may be feasible to protect civilians and ferry in humanitarian aid.

"If it is possible to have a humanitarian dimension for a secured zone to protect civilians, that then is a question which has to be studied by the European Union on the one side and the Arab League on the other side," Juppe said.

"The French have tried to position themselves in a position of leadership, first with Libya and now here," said Hayat Alvi, a lecturer in National Security studies, at the U.S. Naval War College. "Military intervention in Syria is a very different prospect of that in Libya, but we could well see an increase in covert action."

The Arab League has suspended Syria's membership over the conflict, one of the most important signs of Assad's isolation, but has shown little appetite for international intervention.

Britain said it welcomed the opportunity to discuss the French proposal and repeated its call for Syria to end human rights violations.

Syria's bloodshed could pitch the Muslim world into "the darkness of the Middle Ages," Turkish President Abdullah Gul said, some of the strongest language yet showing global anxiety as one of the core Mid-East countries slides toward civil war.

In Brussels, an EU diplomat said European Union governments were considering a new range of sanctions against Syria that would bar investment in Syrian banks, trading its government bonds and selling insurance to state bodies.

Thousands of soldiers have deserted the regular army since it started cracking down on the eight-month protest movement. Some have formed rebel armed units loosely linked to an umbrella "Free Syrian Army" led by officers in Turkey.

    SYRIA ARMY REINFORCES NEAR BORDER

Syrian defectors say they are hopeful that Turkish troops will create a safe haven within Syria. Defectors say they could use such a zone as a staging ground to mount a rebellion.

Syrian deserters and civilians in refugee camps and villages in Turkey close to the frontier say the Syrian army has reinforced its positions in border areas.

Syria appears to be on the brink of a Libya-style armed insurgency. Many experts say Assad, who can depend mainly on the loyalty of two elite Alawaite units, cannot maintain current military operations without cracks emerging in the armed forces.....snip~

There you have it.....The French causing all this $#@! because they want to lead the way. Turkey officers leading Rebels. Sanctions. Syria does not have any big oil reserves but what they do have was feeding the EU. The French play a deadly game thinking they are going to $#@! us over in the long run with the EU and their Democratic Socialistic Agenda that will never be paradise. That the French want to be the Leader of the EU. To be it's President to rival us. "For what'.....if we are all one big happy family in the NWO?

This is ridiculous that all the other Western Powers would allow the French to get out there in the spotlight. To let the French dictate things. Especially militarily. When they could not win a conflict on their own and is it was only against a 3 world country. Tell me they are not manipulating the UN. Who then looks to have NATO go into another Country.

So when the Rest of the World Cries out that the US should have a Safe Zone for immigrants what will all say then? That they want to intervene into our country for humane reasons. To stop us from locking up and mistreating illegals.

Tell me why the French get to play to the World stage when they have sat on their azzes never having to pay for $#@! to cover themselves? Why should France be allowed to dictate anything to us? Better yet why would we listen to anything the French has to say. Or even suggest? A Country filled will Communists all calling themsleves Socialists because now they are into Capitalism. Touting we are Democracry We are Democratic.

Who is pushing the envelope here? Certainly not us. Naturally the Arab league doesnt want to talk about military intervention. They never do. Especially when it comes to getting their hands dirty. Should the Alawite the Closest Descendants to the original Syrian inhabitants be removed so the Sunni can set up another puppet government for the French and Western Allies?

The Arabs show this is not about Tribes anymore. This about Islam and their division with Sharia law. Are we to believe that all Shia are terroists and extremists while the Sunni are not? What the Sunni wearing some Old Spice and running around the World saying we are civilized. Yet are in control of governments that surround them and look to do so with the rest of the world.

Did all forget the timeline.....Soon the Sunni will have no more reserves to tap. Then what do you think the picture will look like even tho we wont be here. Meaning those of us here now. Though if ya 35 and under and live to be 80 or 90 yrs old you may get to see it first hand.

    Oh no, not again!

If the French want to put their military in there go right ahead. That's their right. No NATO or U.S. involvement please.

Re: France Calls For Intervention in Syria.....

Syria already has the Borders mined. But this $#@! about Turkish officers leading rebels and working with the MB is bull$#@!. What any think I was off the mark with France? Yeah I am a bit against them. But facts are facts regardless of how one feels.

Moreover Our Clandestine Affairs has been compromised overseas. Our Foreign Policy is being duped right in front of our faces. This is what Petraues is inheriting. Now I can see why he took the spot. Counter intel needs to be set up and our Foreign policy needs to be reset. Which includes with our Allies. >

Part of me blames the French but to be honest I am more upset with our own government for being their patsy. Why?

Tallyin' up the war crimes - on both sides...

A look at atrocities in Syria's civil war
Nov 2,`12 -- International human rights groups say the vast majority of atrocities in Syria's civil war have been committed by the regime, but violations by those fighting to topple President Bashar Assad are on the rise as rebels gain more territory and a multitude of militias, jihadists and criminals join the armed opposition. Over 36,000 people have been killed since the uprising began in March 2011. The following are some of the atrocities committed over the course of the conflict.
MAJOR ATROCITIES ON THE REGIME SIDE:

    - Late August, 2012: Activists reported that between 300 and 600 people were killed in the Damascus suburb of Daraya over several days in a killing spree by troops and pro-regime militiamen who stormed the town after heavy fighting and days of shelling.

    - June 14, 2012: Dozens of people were killed in the town of Haffa after Assad's forces overran it as part of a major offensive to recover rebel-controlled territories, activists said. U.N. observers who visited the site a day after fighting ended said they were greeted by smoldering buildings, looted shops, smashed cars and the stench of death. The U.N. said bodies appeared to have been removed or buried before the U.N. mission arrived.

    - June 6, 2012: At least 78 people were shot, hacked, or burned to death in the central Syrian village of Mazraat al-Qubair. Activists said pro-government militiamen known as "shabiha" were responsible. A U.N. spokesman called it a "horrific crime."

Gruesome video raises concerns about Syria rebels
Nov 2,`12 -- A video that appears to show a unit of Syrian rebels kicking terrified, captured soldiers and then executing them with machine guns raised concerns Friday about rebel brutality at a time when the United States is making its strongest push yet to forge an opposition movement it can work with.
U.N. officials and human rights groups believe President Bashar Assad's regime is responsible for the bulk of suspected war crimes in Syria's 19-month-old conflict, which began as a largely peaceful uprising but has transformed into a brutal civil war. But investigators of human rights abuses say rebel atrocities are on the rise. At this stage "there may not be anybody with entirely clean hands," Suzanne Nossel, head of the rights group Amnesty International, told The Associated Press.

The U.S. has called for a major leadership shakeup of Syria's political opposition during a crucial conference next week in Qatar. Washington and its allies have been reluctant to give stronger backing to the largely Turkey-based opposition, viewing it as ineffective, fractured and out of touch with fighters trying to topple Assad. But the new video adds to growing concerns about those fighters and could complicate Washington's efforts to decide which of the myriad of opposition groups to support. The video can be seen at http://bit.ly/YxDcWE . "We condemn human rights violations by any party," U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, commenting on the video. "Anyone committing atrocities should be held to account."

She said the Free Syrian Army has urged its fighters to adhere to a code of conduct it established in August, reflecting international rules of war. The summary execution of the captured soldiers, purportedly shown in an amateur video, took place Thursday during a rebel assault on the strategic northern town of Saraqeb, said the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an activist group. It was unclear which rebel faction was involved, though the al-Qaida-inspired Jabhat al-Nusra was among those fighting in the area, the Observatory said.

It's funny - this whole thing is getting ugly on both ends of the spectrum, all while the rest of "civilization" sits back and watches.

Are we now this calloused to human rights violations?

    Who will lead.

Obama ain't going there.....he can't since he's appeasing the ME.

Britain ain't going there as the last time they intervened it cost a prime minister his job and his reputation. France talks a good game, but their cowards. Turkey is ready to, but won't unless they have support and only Poland has the resources and stupidity...

so it's NATO -- No Action, Talk Only.

Syrian town in 'extremely dire' state...

Syria: Humanitarian situation in Daraya 'extremely dire' - UN
Tue, 26 Apr 2016 - UN aid officials warn that situation in Syrian town of Daraya is extremely dire, with shortages of food, medicine, and clean water.
UN aid officials have warned that the situation in the Syrian town of Daraya is extremely dire, with shortages of food, medicine, and clean water. At least 4,000 people are besieged in the town by Syrian government forces. Speaking in Geneva, UN emergency relief coordinator Stephen O'Brien said the Syrian government had ignored "countless" requests for aid to be allowed in. Residents of the town last received a delivery of aid in November 2012. UN officials were able to make a needs assessment earlier this month, and found a severe lack of food and medicine and near complete destruction of the water supply, leading to shortages of safe drinking water.

A Syrian boy receives medical treatment at a field hospital in the southern Syrian city of Daraya after he was hit in the head by shrapnel following a strike by a government forces' missile on the rebel-held part of the city

The town's electricity supply was cut off more than three years ago. "We will continue to press the Syrian authorities relentlessly for us to have that safe unimpeded access to Daraya," Mr O'Brien said. The UN says Syria's shaky cessation of hostilities has allowed significant aid to 12 of 18 other besieged areas, the most recent being this week to the northern town of Rastan, whose 120,000 people had received no aid for over a year. Almost half a million people live under siege in Syria, the UN estimates.

Last week, relief agencies evacuated 500 wounded people from four besieged Syrian towns, in what has been described as the largest such operation so far in the five-year conflict. Half were brought out from towns blockaded by pro-government forces, and half from towns blocked off by rebels. Meanwhile, peace talks that restarted in Geneva earlier this month are in difficulty. It is not clear whether a partial truce that has so far lasted eight weeks will hold. Opposition representatives walked out of the talks last week, blaming government violations of the ceasefire.
