Sports teams are generally named after things which are revered or respected in a society.

The entire controversy is being conducted by brain-dead media with nothing to do and nothing to do it with. I still haven't seen a single Native American, tribe or other such "victim" chime in on these dumbass virtue-signaling spectacles, but I would guess they don't care. It's the biggest load of crap ever in sports, and sports has produced tons and tons of crap.

By the way, I would guess you will still be able to buy caps and shirts that feature images of the "victims". The Milwaukee Laughing Brave is my all-time favorite. The Cleveland Indian is also terrific.

Not sure which, but some Indian group released a statement today saying changing sports' teams names hurts Native Americans- by further erasing them from the general public.

There's another angle of this as well with respect to the Redskins' trademark. There was actually a dispute over the use of a 'disparaging' term and whether that could be a protected trademark. Supreme Court would ultimately rule that the disparagement clause couldn't lead to cancellation of a legal trademark, but we live in an era where even a Supreme Court decision lends no finality to the result. At the end of the day, if the Supreme Court had ruled the other way, people could lawfully make Redskins apparel and sell it with impunity.
