That's a big commitment to make. An injury or a sudden decline and they're in salary cap hell for a long time.

One thing is likely. He won't be there for the full ten years of this contract.
The 140 mil is the injury guarantee.

Well, reportedly, there is a no-trade clause in the contract. Barring injury, he should be there for the full ten years. He'll still be at a good QB age when it's done.

    I already stated the guarantee.

Still the base salary these contracts are usually backloaded and the final three years or so make these contracts untenable from a salary cap perspective.

Also you were incorrect in the guaranteed money In the contract. The guarantee is 140 million dollars. The figures you quoted was what he could earn over the lifetime of the contract. The 450 million is the base. ThE 503 million is if all incentives are achieved.

Several QB’s have signed what are considered to be “lifetime contracts” only to have those contracts renegotiated later or get released.

I don’t believe that Mahomes will be with the Chiefs through the full life of this contract. There will come a time when the increases in his base salary will prevent the team from upgrading at other positions which will cause them to decline as a contender.
The biggest year in his contract will be 2027, at 59.95 million. Chances are that the cap wil raise before then.

2029 is 44.95 million. 2030 is 50.45 million. 2031 is 52.45 million. Those numbers include the bonuses.

No, you stated the injury guarantee. There are other guarantees.

That supports my comment about these contracts being backloaded. The contract very well could contain a non trade clause. So what? If Mahones becomes unhappy for any reason, he can ask to void that. Also, there’s not a “no release” clause b

    Patrick Mahomes guaranteed money
Though Mahomes' contract features $141.428 million in guarantees over 12 years, he was guaranteed only $63.082 million at signing. That $63.082 million includes Mahomes' signing bonus, his base salary for the next three years and his 2021 and 2022 roster bonuses.

Thats why you often see hall of fame players finishing their career with a losing team. That's how it often works in the NFL.
While that's true he will get a huge signing bonus.

He’ll at least get his reported guarantees as long as he remains under contract.
