Why do they want to buy guns? Seems obvious on the reports of how they are being used.

First of all, Black Liars Matter is a racist hate group. Mentioning them is not an act of racism. It's an act of honesty.
Secondly, you liberals keep coming up with that idiotic LIE about buying banned guns from other states. It never occurred to you that maybe there are firearms in Chicago that AREN'T banned, that have been stolen. So I'm going to do your homework for you.
(I KNOW you're used to this. Somebody doing your homework for you.)
Most of the guns used in Chicago gang style murders or just plain murders...

Now for the education you obviously missed out on.
(And to be fair to you, this is something a lot of people probably didn't know either.)
NONE OF THESE GUNS WERE BANNED BY ILLINOIS STATE LAW.
From the state of Illinois statutes
https://codes.findlaw.com/il/chapter-720-criminal-offenses/il-st-sect-720-5-24-1.html
(7) Sells, manufactures, purchases, possesses or carries:
(i) a machine gun, which shall be defined for the purposes of this subsection as anyweapon, which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manually reloading by a single function of the trigger, including the frame or receiver of any such weapon, or sells, manufactures, purchases, possesses, or carries any combination of parts designed or intended for use in converting any weapon into a machine gun, or any combination or parts from which a machine gun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person;
(ii) any rifle having one or more barrels less than 16 inches in length or a shotgun having one or more barrels less than 18 inches in length or any weapon made from a rifle or shotgun, whether by alteration, modification, or otherwise, if such a weapon as modified has an overall length of less than 26 inches; or
You can look above these two examples but you won't find regular hand guns in the bunch. Yes, Chicago DID try to ban handguns but it was overturned in 2008 by the Supreme Court.
Illinois made its gun laws tougher by increasing the waiting period from 24 hours to 72 hours, which ONLY made it harder on legal gun owners protecting themselves.
Is it possible that gangs would buy some guns from out of state? There is a report that says (tries to say with a straight face) that "60 percent of the city's guns" are obtained from out of state." I'm not sure I buy that, but the facts say that the guns doing the damage are not BANNED guns. On the list of top guns seized by Chicago police, you didn't see even ONE sawed off rifle or sawed off shotgun. You didn't see any machine guns.
Why would they buy guns from out of state? Probably cheaper. And some states actually believe in the Second Amendment. But you can't blame a state for the actions of a criminal
Anyway, I won't bust your chops too much about this because it wasn't what I thought, either.
One thing we know, people aren't getting murdered in Chicago with guns bought out of state that have been banned in Illinois.
