Large fleets are becoming increasingly obsolescent due to advancements in missile technology.

The Russians in particular have been laser-focusing on developing missile technology specifically designed to counter US fleets and air power.

Naturally, by the time the US political class gets around to admitting this, it will already be too late. But the US political class is more concerned with lining the pockets of their paymasters in the "defense" industry. Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Boeing, etc., all make obscene profits from military contracts, and they're not about to give that up for purposes of genuine "national" security.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.
