A national emergency demands a national response and LEADERSHIP. The buck stops at the top. You don't force states to compete with one another for PPE, vents, tests, etc.

Trump turned it into a cluster-F by dithering, downplaying, refusal to fully invoke Defense Production Act, conflicting messages and doing absolutely nothing for two long months.

And having one state do one thing and another do something else made the whole reopening effort worthless.

Countries that had fast and effective responses by their governments are much more centralized and have mechanisms in place to allow their top officials to intervene. The United States purposely lacks many of those mechanisms. If Trump had taken on more authority than he is actually allowed/permitted/provided, Democrats would have screamed bloody murder about the abuse of power. Because he didn't, some seem to be blaming him for basically how each state responded.

What does the economy matter if no one is left to make it thrive? This total obsession with money over life is so short sighted. We could have made some real progress on containing this virus if people would have just sacrificed in the beginning.

Stop blaming those who wanted to aggressively address the virus at the onset so we could have avoided where the country currently is at. Schools reopened in Mid April. While several of those countries hadn't come to their peak from the first wave.

Germany peaked early-April, and schools opened on April 20.

Norway peaked early-April, kindergartens opened April 20, and primary/secondary students went back in May.

Denmark peaked early-April and kindergartens opened April 15, with primary and secondary students going back on May 18. Universities are still closed until August 1.
