Sure. Not their demographic, and the vast majority of people do NOT want to see people wearing skimpy clothing unless they can rock the look. But there was a market for fashionable plus size swimwear, and they could have filled it. The margins on swimwear and underwear are ridiculous.
There are plus size models in the SI swimsuit edition now, so I think VS blew it. They were closing brick and mortar before this issue came up anyway, but this sunk their ship.
Plus size swimwear is more expensive to make - uses more fabric and the fabrics have to be more expensive i.e. better quality, more durable and the designs need more structure. The problem is that they would have to sell at higher prices than their regular swimsuits and undoubtedly they would be immediately accused of gouging overweight people. As it is, they are gouging people with rather inflated prices for merchandise that people are complaining is of poor quality. That could also be why their sales are falling.
