NFL Salary Cap doesn't work in the way many fans think.

The salary cap is determined by NFL fiscal numbers rather than being a measure to keep salaries more reasonable.
For example my research showed tonight that a dollar in 2013 was worth $1.10 in 2020. But the NFL salary cap has increased 63% in that same period of time. Effectively making football players ( or quaterbacks) 50% richer that just 7 years ago.
For example Patrict M will pull in almost 25% of the entire salary cap for the 53 man team.

Well, ask any sportswriter. Sky's the limit, and they say Mahome is that good.

It’s also based on each teams share of the broadcast contracts.

IIRC - It is based on the TV Contract, which pays each team's cap number.

He better be. The defense is not going to be able to replenish itself and the QB is no good without a front line. I'm a Pats fan so we understand why you sometimes take troubled players. They come cheaper and you have a salary cap with Tom Brady.
This will be the first year that we will be a mediocre team. Thank God for the Jets so we can at least win 2 games.

Of course they do have you noticed sports writer's salaries in the free agency age?

Right, but when it was installed it was quasi sold as an answer to fans disgust with salaries. Now that we have 21 football players AND a QB on the field the QB is essentially untouchable and therefore becomes even more important to the team. I would love to have seen the numbers Montana, Marino, Stauback etc would of put up under these rule.
What happens to the cheifs if that TV revenue goes down? I'd actually like to see that for many reasons.
I'm just a football addict who is disgusted but probably can't stop watching

I don't recall it being sold that way. I just opted out of our Browns tickets b/c they couldn't guarantee us we'd get our seats, any games, any seats etc. I rolled the money to next year. There will be no FB this year.

So what happens if TV revenues go dramatically down? Or even if the season is cancelled?
What about those salaries then? Personally I would love to see that. Break the NFL and start over kids who just love the game ans have no desire to injure one another with qurterbacks suiting up as real football players.

I haven't read an NFL contract but I understand that they aren't generally guaranteed. Plus the Force Majeure clause may come into play (if there's one in there).
