The Old Guard

I just watched a very, very good film that was released on Netflix last week: The Old Guard. This is the kind of story that they either make into a really good movie or an incredibly cheesy one. This one is great. Fortunately it was produced by Skydance Media, which doesn't do cheesy.



The action sequences, of which there are many, do not overwhelm the plot and are extremely well done. The hand-to-hand fighting and fancy gunplay are reminiscent of the John Wick movies at their best.



Word is there will almost definitely be a sequel.

Great recommend! Saw it yesterday and it was very good; very entertaining. You can't go wrong with a Charlize Theron picture.

On that note - have you seen Atomic Blonde? As with The Old Guard, it's graphic novel like and Therone is brilliant and believable as an action hero super spy.

I did see Atomic Blonde, and enjoyed it very much.

What kind of movies interest you, then? Have you seen any of the John Wick films? The premise of this movie is very different, but the action sequences are almost hypnotic in their intricacy and duration, as in John Wick.

It was very good.

I like Charlize Theron and I think it's great she does her own stunts. In Atomic Blond they actually choreographed it to make it realistic that a woman with training could take on men.

I thought Charlize was great playing a vile mixed up alcoholic and violent drug addicted serial killer Lesbian prostitute in "Monster". She won an award for best actress in that role, I think.

A well-deserved Best Actress Oscar. She was truly scary in that movie, but sad and tragic at the same time.

It was a very sad and tragic story. Arlene was a very tortured soul.

I really liked The Old Guard -- great storyline and they did it well. I hope there is a sequel.

Theron is a good actor, she adapts to virtually any role. I was stunned at her transformation in Monster. I never would have chosen her for that role, but she played it great.

Now I gotta see it. She was great in MONSTER.

She was so good, I would have drove on past had i seen her in that role on the side of the road in Ft. Lauderdale.
She nailed trashy and scary perfectly.
Some of those hookers i drove past looked like they would slit your throat for beer money.

I'm not a big movie goer. I have seen the John Wick series. I find them entertaining just because the action scenes are so over the top.

You would probably enjoy The Old Guard. The fight sequences don't go on for nearly as long as in the John Wick movies, but they are still very well done. Some early scenes also depict a squad of U.S. Marines conducting a raid in Afghanistan that is pretty amazing.
