Or a "RINO", or a "useful idiot", or a "Deep Stater"...the list of silly labels goes on. Once the less cognitively gifted among the self-identified forum conservatives get it into their heads that you're a liberal because you had the audacity to express an opinion they either didn't agree with or didn't understand, you might as well abandon any hope of ever having any kind of honest discussion with them. I probably agree with the self-described conservative contingent here at least 75-80% of the time, but because I think Trump is a dangerous idiot, and because gay and transgender folks don't freak me out, and because I will occasionally play Devil's Advocate and ask a tough question that triggers them because they think I'm trying to pick a fight, I am (and will forever be) labeled a "liberal" - or considerably worse. And as uncomfortable as sharing the "liberal" label with certain individuals out in the world as I am, I would probably be even more uncomfortable - and frequently embarrassed - to call myself a "conservative".
