    Racial justice: The new religion?

Racial justice: The new religion? The "woke" movement is built on shows of "right thinking" and Puritan-style intolerance.

The Woke Cult is on the march. Will they run you over?

Since the death of George Floyd, a movement that condemns America as “systemically racist” has convulsed our public consciousness. Sixty years after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 — and despite decades of affirmative action, massive social welfare spending and a two-term Black president — we are told that “white supremacy” deforms America today, as it has throughout history.

The movement to eradicate “white privilege” manifests in demands to defund police and in the toppling of statues — not only of Confederate generals, but of figures such as Theodore Roosevelt, Ulysses S. Grant, even George Washington.

Educational, business, media, nonprofit and entertainment institutions have taken up the “systemic racism” mantra with breathtaking speed, issuing statements declaring their virtue and right thinking.

Yet something is profoundly amiss in the frenzied movement that has America in its grip. This movement elevates passion over reason and dogma over data. It contemptuously rejects, and attempts to silence, calls for objective analysis as self-evidently racist.

In the process, it requires adherents to turn a blind eye to its stark inconsistencies. For example

    Great article. So many parallels.

It's more than just a new religion to my mind -- it's a full-blown cult. If you're not "with them" you're against them it appears.

What a bunch of weak-minded individuals.

Two of my daughters and one granddaughter have attended the public Art School in Florida. This school was always a paragon of tolerance among the students, black, white, straight, and gay. Entrance into the school was gained by audition. There were almost zero incidents of fights or other trappings of inner city schools. It was a prime example of harmony and acceptance of all peoples regardless of race, creed, or sexual orientation. This year at graduation the African American students began chanting that all white students were racist and disrupted graduation ceremonies.

The war is coming folks, gear up

Yes, that's just the left trying to elevate their ridiculous straw man bull$#@! to the lofty level of a new religion -- you know, like the Church of Satan*, Church of the Sub-Genius*, Jeddiism* , Satanic Temple*, Christian Anarchism*, UFO* ...

*a few real religions or movements from a long list. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ious_movements

To be told, repeatedly that your thoughts are wrong, is absolutely a cult basis to control a person's thinking. "We must teach you the right way'.

What is a shame is that so many people, regardless of individual political position, are so quickly susceptible to this aspect. They've put aside logic and critical thinking, to accept the drone of the masses.

    Racial justice: The new religion?

PC and SJW are pieces of a new secular religion.

    Racial justice: The new religion?

...something is profoundly amiss in the frenzied movement that has America in its grip. This movement elevates passion over reason and dogma over data. It contemptuously rejects, and attempts to silence, calls for objective analysis as self-evidently racist.

...What is unfolding before our eyes is a new secular religion. For all its claims of “inclusivity,” this new faith is deeply intolerant. It has roots in the American past that would likely surprise its adherents: the Puritan era of our nation’s earliest religious zealots. Progressives are now engaged in doing theology without God. “ Woke is the new Saved,” in the words of commentator John Zmirak.

Parallels abound. One of Puritan theology’s core tenets is “innate depravity” — the doctrine that humans are inherently wicked as a result of original sin. The woke faith preaches an updated version: America’s original sin is white supremacy....
Kevin MacDonald, Individualism and the Western Liberal Tradition, here cited in The Role of Empathy in Moral Communities: Altruism—and Pathological Altruism, takes this further and treats it as an addiction.

...Such expressions of high-mindedness are attempts to fit into a moral community as defined by their peers among contemporary Western elites. Because the left dominates the moral high ground, expressing empathy for the native Whites, especially the White working class, makes anyone with such ideas into a moral pariah, as would advocating for their interests, with likely effects on career prospects. Indeed, expressions of White identity and especially having a sense of White interests have been condemned by establishment media and academic figures as illustrating the lowest form of moral depravity.

...the sensations of rightness and nobility act as psychological reflexes, and they are so pleasurable that people are inclined to seek them in their own right and without regard to facts or the long-run consequences to themselves....

...Because feelings of moral righteousness are pleasurable, expressions of self-righteousness can be addictive. “Sanctimony, or a sense of righteous outrage, can feel so intense and delicious that many people actively seek to return to it, again and again.”....

...This type of sanctimoniousness is, of course, particularly common among people who are labeled Social Justice Warriors. These are the people screaming “racist,” “misogynist,” “white supremacist,” etc. at any seeming violation of the norms of the moral communities of the left. And, because of the cultural hegemony of the left, such people can often be seen on social media (and in op-eds in the mainstream media) expressing their moral righteousness—a moral righteousness that fits with or extends the boundaries of the cultural left....
He goes on to look at "competitive altruism or competitive virtue signaling" but you can follow the link to that.
Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire. ― Gustav Mahler
