You get a professor every so often that doesn't let that $#@! fly, but rubrics are increasingly common and restrictive on instructors.

So, APA formatting has a giant handbook and that's great, but no one does it the same. After a hardass criminal psych prof made me debate placing more emphasis on the "criminal" and less on the "psych," I started messaging every prof at the beginning of the semester to "clarify" which version of APA they preferred and if they had any "tips" for me (aka, just tell me how you want your stupid papers formatted so I don't lose points later because I put a period instead of comma).
