A South Florida newspaper is pleading with Gov. Ron DeSantis to do more amid the surge in coronavirus cases and deaths spreading across Florida.


The Sun Sentinel editorial board asked him to issue a statewide face mask mandate in an editorial titled, "Help us out, Gov. DeSantis. We're dying here."


"Help us all out. Far better that you require people to wear masks in public than to continue fostering conditions that will force another shutdown," the editorial said.



"Your refusal to impose a mask order -- a requirement now in effect in 32 other states -- is out-of-touch with the mainstream. A new Quinnipiac poll found 79 percent of Floridians support a mask requirement, including 60 percent of Republicans. If that's not a mandate, what is?"

None of the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark) mandate masks because the science behind the efficacy of masks is flimsy at best and nonexistent at worse.

We already know that the two groups most at risk from COVID - patients in nursing homes and the morbidly obese - cannot be saved by forcing everyone to wear masks.

The only viable strategy is for vulnerable individuals to take necessary precautions while the rest of the population develops herd immunity.

People are dying in Florida. People are dying everywhere. The thing is, they are not necessarily dying of Covid19. This is not true that Floridians are dying in the thousands right now. The article mentions cases. NOT hospitalizations, not deaths. CASES. And in light of the recent admissions by the Florida Health Departments we can't even be sure of that number.
