The US doesn't care about Yemen so much. AQAP is the concern. If Yemen is in the way that is Yemen's problem.

So far as Saudi Arabia and AQAP goes- it expect it is wealthy Saudi citizens rather than the government assisting AQAP.

But remember, to the Arabs the real war is Sunni v. Shia (which Iran leads). Many Sunnis see the Jihadists (the extremist Sunnis) as natural allies against the Shia.

The US doesn't get this. Another reason to rethink our Middle East strategy.

Because the Taliban will harbor, support, and facilitate AQAP. We already know this. We have the t-shirt, been there. The lesson burned into asses on 9-11 seems to have missed a few asses. Huh Peter?

The Americans full well understand the Sunni-Shia rifts and it was those deep differences Iraqi extremists took during the Iraq War. Fully understanding Shia militias in Iraq for example, fully understating Sunni Tribal factions in western Iraq. ME strategy obvious to see and always being re-thought. We support both Sunni and Shia depending on the circumstances, but we full understand those differences.

LONDON/ANKARA/DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran is sending advanced weapons and military advisers to Yemen’s rebel Houthi movement, stepping up support for its Shi’ite ally in a civil war whose outcome could sway the balance of power in the Middle East, regional and Western sources say.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-y...rn sources say.

Washington — A Navy warship has seized a "significant cache" of suspected Iranian guided missile parts headed to rebels in Yemen, U.S. officials said Wednesday, marking the first time that such sophisticated components have been taken en route to the war there. A U.S. official confirmed the seizure to CBS News national security correspondent David Martin.

The seizure from a small boat by the U.S. Navy and a U.S. Coast Guard boarding team took place last Wednesday in the northern Arabian Sea, and the weapons have been linked to Iran.

AQAP is not in Afghanistan. AQ is. ISIL-K is.

That is the fundamental flaw in Western strategy in the ME.

There is no Western strategy ..... its all just US strategy , and going forward it is becoming less and less relevant to other country's well being and economic prosperity .
