Venezuela Offers Pensions to Full-Time Mothers

I often praise Venezuela, but I must do so again: the country's new labor law (they enact one every May Day) gives housewives the right to government pensions as part of the country's quest to achieve gender parity and obliterate poverty along the road to socialism. Latin America in general has taken a more progressive and independent turn in the last 15 years or so, but Venezuela continues to lead the charge in a specifically socialistic, egalitarian direction. Present Gini coefficient data shows that Venezuela has the most equitable wealth distribution in Latin America. This new measure will only help further close that gap, to say nothing of ending a form of slave labor in that country and improving the social standing of women.

So, they get a pension that allows them to buy a box of cereal if they can find a box of cereal. How $#@!ing wonderful. In the U.S., we give people checks every month to sit on the couch and watch television.

Their economy is near collapse. A pension wage likely doesn't buy a loaf of bread.

I hear they are offering a choice to the housewives. Take the pension or be given toilet paper. I hear the mothers are choosing the latter.

My wife was a stay-at-home Mom. Well, except she played tennis eight-hours a day and was the number one ranked woman's tennis player in the city. If the kids had a problem I'd get a phone call. There stay-at-home Mom was never available.
