NASA’s Rover Finds ‘Drinkable’ Water On Mars

NASA’s Rover Finds ‘Drinkable’ Water On Mars

Man has been fascinated with the universe since the early days, when there were no telescopes or rockets, and certainly no NASA and its rovers. One of the agency’s rovers on Mars, Opportunity, has found ‘drinkable’ water on the Red Planet. This is the first time that evidence of such neutral or non-acidic chemistry water has been found on the planet. The discovery was made after a Martian rock which has clays formed in non-acidic water was analyzed by Opportunity.

Opportunity’s lead scientist Steve Squyres of Cornell University said that the exciting thing about this discovery is that it hints at the existence of neutral water in the very, very early days of Mars, adding that “this is water you can drink.” The rock that was examined is called Esperance, its located at the Endeavour Crater, it took Opportunity three years to reach the rim of this impact basin. Esperance was discovered to have clays rich in aluminium, which scientists believe is a sign that neutral water once flowed through this rock. Opportunity does not have a drill or on-board chemistry lab like NASA’s Curiosity rover does, it used basic mineralogy to determine the once possible presence of ‘drinkable’ water on the neighboring planet. This should be more exciting, somehow it seems matter of fact, drab and dull.

It is very exciting. It proves that man can spread off earth. It is our future.

Yea, but it's just a drop in the bucket, sort of. I mean if you consider all the events behind this, all the science and technology and that craft taking forever to get there and being up there for three years now. But definitely a milestone.

We are closer, technology wise, to going to Mars today, than we were in going to the moon when JFK gave a decade timeline.

well, yes... i'd think that's probably true.

but we have to overcome the radiation problem

An instrument aboard the spaceship that carried Curiosity to Mars has found that deep space travelers would face worrying levels of radiation.
A spaceflight to Mars carrying astronauts has been discussed on and off for several decades, and it remains an objective of NASA (whether or not funding is ever released for such an endeavor).

Yes, the radiation is a problem. I am sure we can figure it out. They did in Star Trek...

Someone needs to teach the government-paid "scientists" at NASA that clay is not 'drinkable.'
