    Countdown to Royal baby

I have a mixed attitude as to the role monarchy plays in Canadian law/politics, but it's exciting nonetheless for an heir to be born. My mother's family is very royalist so I grew up learning a lot about the monarchy. Diana's death hit my grandmother harder than the death of my great-grandmother a week earlier, for example. When she herself died, I inherited a very large collection of books on the Windsors and ther ancestors. So while it goes against my political ideology I've also been a bit of a royal watcher since I was a kid. They are quite the interesting group.

Any day now the new heir to the throne will be born, and that's pretty exciting! I'm hoping it's a girl - Queens in their own right seem to do the monarchy well.

With a private charter helicopter already waiting on the grounds of their home in North Wales, it's clear that Prince William's staff and Buckingham Palace are well prepared should Kate go into labor early.

Buckingham Palace has just given official word declaring Prince William and Kate Middleton's unborn child's royal title.

While the couple doesn't yet know the baby's sex, their first born — the future King or Queen of England — shall be called ... drum roll please ...

His or Her Royal Highness the Prince or Princess of Cambridge.

"Considering the fact that dad and mom are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, it's not exactly a shocker that their little one should take the surname," explains E! Online. "What is unique, though, is that this royal baby will be the first ever Prince or Princess of Cambridge."

The royals have always been a guilty pleasure for me. I do enjoy them quite a bit.

the title does not surprise me a bit. Its all about who you have bow/curtsy to.

You could not have a direct line royal to the throne being lower in the curtsy order to say Andrews daughters... who both are princesses.

I'm hoping they go with the name Alexandra if it's a girl. It'll have to be traditional, and I must say all of the available boys names kind of suck. Another reason to hope for a female.

There are bets on it, but I don't think that will ever happen. The firm wouldn't allow it. It could be one of the many middle names the child is likely to have, though.

The concept of "royalty" should be a slap in the face to any common citizen. Unfortunately royalty is idolized.

I like keeping an eye on the royals; they're interesting. Now if we could just get Charlie to adbdicate (he's an idiot and I can't stand the idea of Camilla being anywhere near the throne), with Wills next in line; then the baby, they'll be well set up for the next couple of generations.
