Shock collars are cruel and only teach a dog to fear. Since fear is what makes dogs snappish, I think it is counter productive. If the dog is snapping at people or other dogs, he needs to be better socialized. A muzzle can help, until he realizes he's not in danger.

no they are not......you use a sound before the shock...the dog quickly learns....or the behavior is quickly modified....i wouldnt use it for a snap at another puppy...i mean really...they should expect that with dogs in training...i would never use a muzzle....but that is just me....

i dont think stumpy has any serious problems...fence in the yard..simple as that...a lot of people use 'clickers'

I've had many dogs in my lifetime and have never needed a shock collar for snappish behavior. Never had any dog bite incidents either. BTW that white shepherd in the video looks like my dog Pax, may she rest in peace. She was a great girl and really smart. I miss her.

i, too have had many dogs.....i have used a shock collar....with one...and it went very well....he is a happy and well adjusted adult now...it was not something i used for months...the behavior i wanted to modified had to be modified quickly...it took about a month...i only used it for the time i had to use it...

who the shock collar is a joke with stumpy....he is a small stubborn little dog but it will not be necessary...personally i am not sure who the teacher in this class is ...but i have said...this aint gonna work ...her hubby needs to take stumpy to the class....stumpy has not respect for willow...and i wouldnt bother with an instructor who kicked my dog out for snapping at golden pup

hubby says we will be glad to take stumpy....i told him you were not giving stumpy away.....lol...i would look for a trainer who will come out and work with stumpy one on one with you and hubby....i am not sure how pricey that would be but a few sessions should do it...
