Military Historian.....I am sure you have seen him on the history channel. The one thing I do question. is whether Alexzander was a Florentine style fighter. IMO maybe in a pinch he would have attempted to fight with two weapons. Most of the time I see him fighting with a sword and shield.
The Spartans get all the credit for the battle at Thermopalye. But in truth like 1000 Thespians stayed and fought to the death as well as 400 Thebians.
Seems the Dorians were always fighing in and around Sparta even as Sparta became a power. Also if you recall at the the battle of thermopalye the Dorians were the ones guarding the not so hidden goat pass. They bailed on leonides. These were the Macedonians. Still Persia ran an affective campaign against the Spartans making sure they could never come at them again.
Not even Phillip or Alexzander ever attempted to conquer Sparta. Even after this defeat Sparta remained. Later they would defeat some visgoths fighting for Rome!

Honestly, I thin the Bible Battles and Battles B.C. reenactments are preposterous for the most part. Their depiction of Alexander is probably closer to the mar because he led from the front. He had a heroic style of leadership. Hannibal and Caesar, for example, would not have been engaged in combat like that show depicts them. Plus, the styles of fighting are bizarre. It's not a bar room brawl. Units are in formation. If that formation breaks you're dead. It's just not very realistic when they have guys running around waving their swords.

Well in truth when Ceasar did go into battle he led from the front and was in the thick of things. That they know. Same with Hannibal. But those re-enactments with David and all are a joke. Its the same thing with the deadliest warriors. Other than what damage would be done to the physical body despite wearing the various types of Armor.

Neither one led from the front. I'm not sure where you got that from. There is a story about Caesar grabbing a shield and pressing into a unit to help rally his men but that's about it. Alexander's style was a lot different and very risky. He was less a general than a warrior.

Alexander was nearly killed on several occasions. Not only that but it's a quick way to lose all sense of what's going on elsewhere. That is, when you take personal command of a unit and it enters melee (i.e. combat) that small area becomes the center of the battle for you.

All 5 major battles of Ceasars Career. De Bello Gallico, Civil, Alexzandrino, Africo, and Hispaniensi. The Writer Seutonius tells that Ceasar almost lost his life in a few battles with the Alexzandrian War. Plus his LT Palumbo wrote of several battles where Ceasar fought with his men. And it is as you say the battlefield then and there is centralized. Also there were accounts from Marc Antony on Ceasar Charging into battle on his White Horse with his light Cavalry. Moreover Ceasar studied Alexzander. Which is one of the reasons why Ceasar was a great leader and had the support and respect of his men and his Army.
