Lightbulb (IL) Quinn signs measure requiring gun owners to report missing firearms.

Illinois gun owners will have to report missing firearms to police and check the background of potential buyers under a law Gov. Pat Quinn enacted Sunday.

Quinn signed the legislation at a South Side park near where an off-duty Chicago police officer was killed with an illegally trafficked gun in 2010. He said the law will make it easier to recover stolen weapons and help ensure that only responsible people buy firearms. The measure passed both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly with healthy majorities.

"It's going to help our law enforcement," the Democratic governor said. "It's going to help all of us be safe."

Starting immediately, gun owners whose weapons are lost or stolen will have 72 hours to notify police. And beginning Jan. 1, individual gun owners will have to contact the Illinois State Police before selling a weapon or transferring ownership to ensure that the purchaser is allowed to have a gun.

Kinda makes common sense to me ... if someone takes your automobile, and you don't report it stolen, and that automobile is used to commit, yet another felony ... guess who's screwed?

Yep, more useless legislation from bankrupt Illinois.

Will it reduce violence? Has anyone seen just this summer's gun violence numbers coming from Chicago?

You aren't addressing the actual issues, you're legislating pretending it's going to have results.

You aren't interested in reducing violence in Chicago, Cigar....those pathetic gun violence numbers you ignore, Rachael doesn't instruct you to rage over those.....so you don't even care.

    Pathetic.

No you don't or you'd have done your homework. The murder rate is down....because last year Chicago had the most murders of any city in America in 2012...506, that was in fact a 17% spike. But %'s don't tell the story, the outright number.......500+ in one year...with a most restrictive gun control policy...proves the Democrat Party and its' hacks like you Cigar actually don't care....and never have. A trayvon Martin gets you so worked up, you threaten and babble and make a f'n fool of yourself on a public forum....without a clue that 506 murders occurred last year.....in Chicago alone......many of them children.
You're a hack Cigar, easily exposed, easily dimsmissed. We move on.
