The Wash's Solution to the Healthcare Problem

I'm not normally a "legislate it" type or person but in this case I'm going the government route.

    1. I would repeal the ACA,
    2. Create legislation that forces doctors and hospitals to publish prices
    3. Allow insurance companies to cross state lines to sell plans
    4. Expand medicaid to individuals AND families for those that truly need it
    5. Offer tax incentives to hospitals willing to accept payment plans and medical care financing

Great! Although I was expecting something more in-depth but it's a start.

The goal of the ACA was to get people coverage who could not otherwise do so. I would expand medicaid to individuals who have a pre-existing condition that leaves them out of the insurance option.

Medicaid is a safety net for those who cannot afford it otherwise. Even on a payment plan you can't get cancer treatment $$ down enough, plus it would cost too much on the hospitals because those people may die. Give them medicaid as an option.

    I'll support you for president.

    Back to napping...
And if we should die tonight
Then we should all die together
Raise a glass of wine for the last time
Calling out father, prepare as we will
Watch the flames burn auburn on the mountain side
    Desolation comes upon the sky..

    1) OK

    2) States like WV already require hospitals to publish prices. What you don't understand is that what docs and hospitals charge for services isn't what they get paid. They get paid fixed fees and payments from care/caid and negotiate reimbursement from private insurances and the blues. Self-pay is a very small percentage of overall business and a very large chunk of that goes unreimbursed (aka bad debt, written off). They can charge whatever they want, what they actually get is already to a large degree fixed.

    3) They kinda already do that, the only benefit here is eliminating red tape.

    4) The ACA is already doing that, but all things considered I agree - HOWEVER, understand that most caid programs already pay less than what it costs to deliver healthcare. Like 30 cents on the dollar of delivery expense - providers lose money. But... I'll take a medicaid patient over a self-pay patient any day of the week.

    5) Many/most hospitals are tax exempt already

It's a start, needs work tho.

I think pretty much everyone realizes that what your price is and what you get paid are different, dude. Overhead costs, billable versus nonbillable, etc. No one thinks that if you see $200 an hour you think your doctor gets the whole thing.

There are a lot of private hospitals in the US, too.

Since neither one of us are getting what we want, because The ACA is Reality ... I say do what America has done for two Centuries ... make Amendments

I want that, too, but with Olgay Kurylenko in the passenger's seat.
