Texas A&M Needs To Fire This Moron

A full-time professor on the faculty of the newly-minted Texas A&M University School of Law called for the repeal and replacement of the Second Amendment on Friday.
The professor, Mary Margaret “Meg” Penrose, made her controversial declaration during a day-long panel symposium on gun control and the Second Amendment at the University of Connecticut School of Law in Hartford.
UConn’s main student-run journal, The Connecticut Law Review, organized the event, according to Connecticut Public Radio. It was well-attended, primarily by law students, law professors and local attorneys.

“I think I’m in agreement with you and, unfortunately, drastic times require drastic measures,” the professor said, according to CTNewsJunkie. “I think the Second Amendment is misunderstood and I think it’s time today, in our drastic measures, to repeal and replace that Second Amendment.”

“Why do we keep such an allegiance to a constitution that was driven by 18th Century concerns?” she asked, according to CTNewsJunkie. “How many of you recognize that the main concern of the 18th Century was a standing army? That’s what motivated the Second Amendment: fear of a standing army.”

btw, she happens to be right about the history…. the militias were supported because there were those who were skeptical of a standing army. and for over 200 years the courts laughed at anyone who suggested that the 2nd amendment conveyed a private right of gun ownership… of course, that was before the right-wingers got to Heller…. which still doesn't make this woman incorrect for believing what she does.

I agree with this professor's right to her opinion. In fact, I don't consider her a liberal because she wants to repeal the second amendment and pass a replacement. That's so much better than the abortion "amendment" where they just miraculously found an amendment that no one had seen and that no one has yet to see.

If she were to be a liberal, like some posting here, she would have announced that militias meant government-supported military units and therefore the idea that the second amendment says the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed is wrong. And, with no repeal and no new amendment the forces of the federal government would simply proceed to confiscate all weapons from the enemies of the state...those who used to be called the people. That's how liberals work. Consider the current packing of the DC court so Glorious Leader can rape the country.

I am not opposed to all sides of an argument being voiced, especially in our collage and university campus

The only way that this should be opposed is if she is not allowing for other arguments or giving a lower grade for those that don't agree with her, then it would be wrong

i would expect others to voice their views.

but her opinion, to which she's entitled, certainly doesn't make her a moron… even if you think she's wrong. (although historically, she's not wrong).

some… and that's the thing. 90% of americans want reasonable regulation -- like background checks to make sure that crazies and criminals don't have guns… or at least cut down the numbers.

but what's happened is a smaller and smaller group of obsessed people are buying more and more weapons.

Of course, it's wrong but it's also an excellent education for Americans on the nature of liberals and liberalism. It certainly helped me to have bigoted, hate-filled professors spewing nonsense. I just didn't sit on the front row where the spittle would get me.
