    The Battle of 73rd Eastings

I was watching this show (again) on the history channel. At the end when the 7th Corps was handling the EPWs one Iraqi Bde CDR was stuffed into a Bradley. Taped to the door was a picture of Erwin Rommel. The Iraqi COL asked in perfect English "why do you have a picture of your WWII adversary here." The driver, a private said "why don't you shut the hell up. If you read more history you wouldn't be sitting in the back of my track."

    Priceless.

And that was the last great tank battle of the 20th Century. I wonder if there will ever be another.

Greatest Tank Battles, Peter? I saw a few of those. Good show.

    Yes that was it.

The 7th Corp push was to the east of us. I was at the tip of the 18th Airborne Corps. We had the Hammurabi Division attempt to crush our light infantry asses; luckily the 3rd Armored Division interdicted.

The Hammurabi Division. It has some flair. Did you guys have anti-tank capability? Not that you are going to stop an armored division but it's better than being defenseless.

It's a pretty good series. They even have an episode or two about WW1.

We had TOW missiles which would help. We had artillery and close air. But had the armored division not caught up to us and moved into a blocking position in time we would have taken severe casualties. I remember the night before contact I took my entire trigger mechanism apart and really cleaned it to make sure it would work in the morning. That is not level 1 maintenance. And I still have my K-bar.

As it was we only lost one guy. And he was an engineer attached to us at the last minute so we really didn't miss him.

His LAW rocket got hit by a bullet and blew his kidneys out. He bled out waiting for a French medivac to show up- they wouldn't get near because of the enemy fire. He was about 300 meters from me.
