Romney Touts His DC Insider Connections and His Love of Taxpayer Pork

In a long-forgotten tape from the 2002 Massachusetts governor's race obtained by ABC News, Mitt Romney is seen touting his Washington connections and his ability to get millions of taxpayer dollars from the federal government.

"I am big believer in getting money where the money is," Romney says on the video, "The money is in Washington."

The video, which was surreptitiously shot by Democratic opponents of Romney on Oct. 16, 2002, shows him addressing a group called the New Bedford Industrial Foundation. The Power Point presentation he uses lists ways to improve economic development in Massachusetts, including "boost federal involvement."

"I want to go after every grant, every project, every department in Washington to assure that we are taking advantage of economic development opportunities," Romney tells the group.

And while Romney now often criticizes his opponents for being Washington insiders, in this video he touts his Washington connections.

All senators and governors try to bring home the bacon for their state, so this isn't a surprising video, but it does run contrary to what Romney's been campaigning on. Then again, he claims his views have changed so much since 2002. I don't know that I buy that. I wonder if we'll see some of this footage in a new Santorum ad.

The only choice we have again is NOTA.
"If a politician found he had cannibals among his constituents, he would promise them missionaries for dinner."

"The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable."

    H. L. Mencken

This is where he tries to convince all he has seen the light and that he will aspire to be more Conservative-like and move more to the right. I figure the left will come out next with his meetings with Bildeberg. Keep correlating him to the rich and his rich buddies. The only good thing is if they do, he can hit Obama with his torch to Goldman Sachs and Bildeberg.

I think the general consensus is, and I firmly believe it also, Romney will say anything regardless of his intentions to garner popular support.
