    Three Stooges

I think I mentioned this on the old site - I'm a huge Stooges aficionado. I have every Stooges episode ever made in my DVD collection and regularly watch them with my kids.

So I'll post a couple of my favorites here, for entertainment purposes.

Two favorites (one a classic). This first one is one of mine, the second one of my 8yr olds. We watched it a couple times in Niagara Falls, for the nostalgia.

Higher than a kite - the first half is absolute genius. The 'stuck in a pipe' part is off the charts and a great throwback to WWII culture.

(They're in Part I/Part II segments)

Might be a silly question but did they ever get hurt doing any of these movies? Some of this stuff looks a little too realistic, especially for the time when it was filmed.

It was reported that Larry had a somewhat permanent red mark on his face from being slapped all the time.

Joe Besser put it in his contract that he was not to be physically harmed during his stint with the Stooges.

There is a video of Moe on the Mike Douglas show on Youtube where he talks about how kids were going around and poking each other in the eye.

He had a stroke but continued for a while producing films. You can tell the pre/post stroke curly since he slurs his dialogue after the stroke - like in this classic, a favorite with home brewers (one of my favorites - note curly's slurring):

And, if you noticed in Part II, Curly seems pretty vibrant. It's because when, after Curly's stroke, they cut/mixed footage from old scenes into new shorts. Recycled footage. There was the "false Shemp" thingy also.

There is a classic scene - Curly's last appearance as a train passenger. He spoke no words. It was the only time Curly, Moe, Larry and Shemp appeared in a film. He's not very recognizable, he has hair. It's reported that he could barely speak at this stage of his life.

I just looked a photo of that scene - the 'four stooges' - on Wikipedia reading about life.

Yeah, Moe, Shemp and Curly were brothers. Brothers Horowitz.

Curly was Jerome Horowitz - or "Babe" to Moe. Shemp was Sam Horowitz, got his nickname from his mother's tendency to mispronounce his English version of his name. Moe was Moses Horowitz.

Larry was a musician from (I think) NJ, auditioned for the Stooges and woke up late or something like that (or fell asleep after washing his hair) and didn't have time to fix it - hence the crazy hair look.

I guess having a shaved head was unusual back in those days? If Wiki is to be believed it did a number on his psyche.
