Barrel bomb rains death on Aleppo; 85 reported killed

    Last updated: Monday, February 03

    Excerpt:

“At least 85 people were killed, including 65 civilians, 10 of whom were children,” on Saturday, the Observatory said.

Attacks targeted several areas of the city, with 34 killed in the southeastern Tariq Al-Bab area alone, among them six children.

Another 22 civilians, including another six children, were killed in the Salhine, Ansari and Marjeh districts, with nine others killed in other parts of the city.

The Britain-based Observatory said 10 militants from Al-Nusra Front, Al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate, were also killed in a local headquarters in the city.

Ten other deaths in the attacks were recorded but the identities of the dead had not been confirmed.

Once Syria’s economic hub, Aleppo is now divided between regime and rebel-held areas, with large swathes of the city devastated by the fighting that began there in mid-2012.

In December, government aircraft launched a sustained blitz on the city that killed hundreds of people, most of them civilians.

Regime forces recently launched an offensive on rebel-held areas in the east of the city, with Defense Minister General Fahd Al-Freij visiting the province on Friday.

The latest aerial assault came the day after Syrian government and opposition delegations wrapped up peace talks in Geneva.

The 10 days of talks yielded no tangible results and the government team said it was unsure whether it would return to the negotiating table.

More than 136,000 people have been killed since the conflict began in March 2011, and the fighting has raised tensions in neighboring Lebanon.

On Saturday, a bomb killed four people and injured at least 15 others in the eastern town of Hermel. – AFP

No. The war will go on for a while. Neither side is strong enough to force the other to the peace table.

    Civillians should leave.

And these so-called aid corridors is just USA trying to find ways for CIA to move stuff. There is no need for them. Red Cross should give the aid to Syrian Army at border. No aid corridors. Its a scam. And Syria knows it. Western 'aid' is known for acting as cover for CIA.

USA should end it all by stopping their support of the terrorists. Even the Pope thinks so. USA is on wrong side of history.

Possibly, but the USA is much closer to the best side of both right and history than either Iran, Syria and, especially, China and Russia.

Aleppo risks becoming a "giant graveyard"... UN warns of 'giant graveyard' as thousands flee Aleppo fighting Thursday 1st December, 2016: The UN's aid chief warned on Wednesday (Nov 30) that Aleppo risked becoming a "giant graveyard" after more than 50,000 people were reported to have fled intense fighting between government and rebel forces.
As the Security Council held emergency talks on the fighting in New York, Syria's opposition urged the UN to take immediate steps to protect civilians. A government offensive to retake all of Aleppo has pounded the city in recent days, with shelling of an opposition-controlled area reported to have killed at least 26 civilians. Artillery shells rained down on one southeastern rebel-held district. The motionless body of a girl lay crumpled in the street, her arm severed and her head pierced by shrapnel. Rescue volunteers carried her body away on a motorcycle. Speaking to the special Security Council session by video-link from London, Stephen O'Brien, the UN humanitarian chief, appealed for action to stop the fighting. "For the sake of humanity we call on - we plead - with the parties and those with influence to do everything in their power to protect civilians and enable access to the besieged part of eastern Aleppo before it becomes one giant graveyard," he said. Civilians have poured out of the besieged rebel-held east, battered by air strikes and heavy artillery fire by the advancing forces of President Bashar al-Assad. On a visit to Paris, a local council leader east Aleppo called Wednesday for safe passage for desperate civilians, warning the UN would be "signing the death warrant of 250,000 people" if it failed to act. "Let the civilians leave, protect the civilians, put in place a safe corridor so they can leave," Brita Hagi Hassan said after meeting French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault. Government troops and allied fighters have seized around 40 per cent of the rebel-held east of Aleppo since they began an operation to recapture all of the city just over a fortnight ago. They now fully control the city's northeast and pressed their offensive Wednesday on Aleppo's southeastern edges, advancing in the Sheikh Saeed district, according to state media. The loss of Aleppo would be the biggest blow for Syria's opposition since the conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government protests, before spiralling into a civil war. 'BARBARIC OFFENSIVE'

I've been told that the civilian holocaust occurring in Aleppo is an illusion designed by the mainstream media. Meanwhile, in the real world, scores of civilians are dying and/or being bombed on a daily basis.

Civilians can't leave, humanitarian aid cannot enter.
