    Another good one.

What is a "High Street Bank" ?

I guess it is different over there because it seems our government did the exact opposite of what he said with regard to TARP and the bailouts.

    This guy is prolific!
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

An interesting point concerns the central banks. In the us our central bank (the Federal Reserve) is private and when it makes money we owe interest. Follow the Constitution and have the Department of Treasury operate the central bank and those interest payments disappear. Of course that is minor $$ in comparison to the out of control spending of our government.....

I think that it is an English slag term for a good neighborhood versus where the poor people live. Perhaps it means respectable. I heard it often when the Wife and I were in Edinburgh.

Thanks guys - from Chris's link - "High street is roughly synonymous to the American term "Main Street."

So the other side of the tracks is Low Street? Could be. There's High Church and Low Church in the UK.

Maybe so...not sure we have an opposite for Main Street. Skid Row?
