yeah I saw a small part of that Rome series and it was really really serious on a lot of the daily details of the romans, most of the events are correct though obviously individual charactors ' role are sometimes stretched / exaggerated / made up.

The Rome : Total War game that was out a long time ago is a lot less accurate but never the less it was a cool game.

I know, though IMHO that series is half dead without the moddabiltiy of the RTW / M2TW versions. player made mods are so much better than the original content in so many ways it's ridiculas .. Rome II is supposedly a new engine (the 3 previous series ETW / NTW / S2TW are largely the same engine) but it seems unlikely that it'll be that much more mod friendly.

Total War makers also released a total patch called Total War Total Realism.

I liked both of them.....plus I have all the Age of Empires and up to Civilization3. Although in AOE I never chose the Romans to Conquer with.
I wouldn't mind visiting Rome. As a Sicani it would be interesting to see what our offspring did.

There are still very active mod communities for new games that come out though. The RPG Skyrim has a bunch of mods for example. So don't give up too much hope, it could happen.

Ahhh yes but my main preoccpuation is history the ETW/NTW/S2TW engines could be modded to some extend but that extend is nowhere near what you could do in M2TW/ RTW. (for one thing, you can't change the map anymore, which is a huge blow, I changed my M2TW map to soemthing like this.)

    (setting 1100 starting date)

compare that with the old standard M2TW starting map (can see it on the btm left corner

also for the same map area, this is what eventually hope to make the map in appearance. (though this part is gonna take awhile, given how many you need to set in)
