This political system attracts a certain type of man. Those who display strong feelings about...well anything are portrayed as kooks and fanatics trying "shove religion down your throat" or something of that nature. You get what you desire: managers who care more about their careers and their campaign donors than anything else. They aren't leaders but rather administrators who aren't elected to lead much less change anything.

Although I don't completely your assessment, I think you're damn close. Yes, it takes a certain type of person to run for political office. There are enough news stories and documentaries showing the background of politicians and election to convince it's not something I'd want to do.

It costs a lot no doubt but is that a symptom or a cause? I think the former. It's just a job and a means to an end. A career move. Honestly, I don't think few of these guys actually believe in anything. At best, we get guys like bush who govern out of a sense of noblesse oblige.

There are only two types of people who want to go into politics (particularly Federal and State) - idealists and the other kind. The other kind are poly-sci majors or lawyers who know that a political career is a short cut to positions on boards of directors, CEO positions, a network of people who can advance your career and generally really high paying work - in short it is how you get rich quicker. The idealists are lucky if they can get any financial support, whereas the latter know exactly who will finance their political career for a price.

Good question. They were more apparent in the past, but the cost of getting elected excludes most. Like him or not, I suppose Ron Paul is an idealist, and one of the few who could afford to finance his political career. Green Party candidates? Generally speaking they don't get elected so no one gets to know who they are.

About Russia moving tanks and their army, checked the news outlets and googled it and find nothing.
I do not expect Russia to invade the Ukraine. Were they to cross a border, my guess is to Crimea where they have tons of support.
