    Kind of interesting...

This Map Shows Where People Are Most Satisfied With Their Country's Direction

...below is a map based on data from the 2013 Pew Research Global Attitudes Project. It shows the percentage of the populations in the surveyed countries that were satisfied with their country’s direction.

The citizens of China and Malaysia appear to be very satisfied with their countries’ directions, with 85% and 83% of their respective populations answering positively.

The bottom of the list consists of countries in the troubled Southern European periphery — Spain (5% satisfied), Italy (3%), and Greece (2%). With enduring high unemployment and political turmoil, it is not surprising that huge majorities find their countries headed in the wrong direction.

The United States falls near the middle of the surveyed countries, with 31% of respondents saying they were satisfied with the country’s direction.

Here is a list of the countries, adapted from Pew Research’s summary data:

Pretty bad when the Russians who have a cultural predisposition toward not being happy are happier than America.

Keep in mind this satisfaction with the direction of the country, the political direction as I take it.

Survey Questioner: Are you happy with the direction China is taking?
China Respondent: No, I feel like two dollars a day wages is much too little.
SQ: Yes, but are you happy with the direction China is taking?
CR: No, our housing is small and crowded.
SQ: Yes, we know, but are you happy with the direction China is taking?
    CR: No.
SQ: (angry now) This is the last time you will be asked, are you happy with the direction China is taking?
    CR: Well, yes, of course.
SQ: Thank you for your honest answer, next.

I have to say the above survey is one of the most absurd I have seen recently, where for instance are the Scandinavian nations? Human nature being what it is the question may elicit negative comments as the poor are poor, the rich never satisfied, and those somewhere in a middle place wanting more. But then don't many of these same people vote in the fools who run the nation? Odd useless survey imo.

That's very interesting and contributes a lot to discussion, midcan--oh, wait, the OP is about a Pew survey on satisfaction with country direction, and your link is criticism of "The Legatum Institute seeks answers with its 2013 Prosperity Index." So I was going to thank you but now I don't know what your point is. And let us also note your questionnaire is entirely fictitious.

They should quit complaining and get out and vote for something.
