Animals seem to be fleeing Yellowstone

Animals seem to be fleeing Yellowstone

A number of bloggers are posting videos that show bison and other animals allegedly leaving Yellowstone National Park, prompting theories that as earthquakes ramp up the seismic activity will set off the Yellowstone supervolcano.

Two of the main bloggers behind the discussion stress that there’s no way to know when the supervolcano will go off but note that the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that hit on March 30 seemed to set off a reaction from the animals, who are moving for a reason.
Discounting the source is a logical fallacy. Check out the video of the wild animals heading out of town via the road.

I was on that road. No large critters trying to get away.

Holy $#@!. I mentioned that yesterday.

If it blows I cannot be blamed.

Warning of something does not make it happen. And joking about it cant either.

edit- Warning wards off blame. (:

Man dies in Yellowstone hot spring...

Yellowstone National Park: Man dies after falling into hot spring
Wed, 08 Jun 2016 - Officials with Yellowstone National Park say a man died after falling into a hot spring, having wandered away from a path.
Colin Nathaniel Scott, 23, fell into the spring in the Norris Geyser Basin area of the park in north-west Wyoming. Authorities are now trying to retrieve Mr Scott's body from the spring but have so far been unable to reach it. Springs in that part of the park, where boiling water runs under thin rock, can result in temperatures of up to 199C. "It's very fragile rock and can be thin as a skiff of ice," said park spokeswoman Charissa Reid.

Park officials say Mr Scott and his sister had strayed some 200 metres (656ft) from a designated walkway. They recommend visitors do not leave trails in hydrothermal areas or approach wildlife. On Saturday, a 13-year-old boy suffered burns after his father, who was carrying him, slipped into another hot spring in the park. The pair had also reportedly left a path.

Last month, a Canadian tourist put a bison calf into his car boot in Yellowstone as he was worried it looked cold. The bison was then rejected by its herd, leading it to be put down.

Stay out of the hot springs. That had those in Iceland too.

Animals taking off is a bad sign.

    Supervolcano under Yellowstone Nat'l Park...

The timebomb under Yellowstone: Experts warn of 90,000 immediate deaths and a 'nuclear winter' across the US if supervolcano erupts
    7 August 2015
    * It could release 1 ft layer of molten ash 1,000 miles from the National Park
    * It would be 1,000 times as powerful as the 1980 Mount St Helens eruption
    * A haze would drap over the United States, causing temperatures to drop
    * Experts say there is a 1 in 700,000 annual chance of a eruption at the site
A supervolcano in the heart of America's northwest has the potential to blanket the US in a 'nuclear winter'. If it were to erupt, the Yellowstone supervolcano would be one thousand times as powerful as the 1980 Mount St Helens eruption, experts claim. While it has lain dormant for more than 70,000 years, scientists say that we can't rule out the possibility eruption this may some day take place - although they say the chances are extremely slim.

The Grand Prismatic hot spring in Yellowstone National Park is among the park's many hydrothermal features created by the Yellowstone supervolcano. Experts say there is a one in 700,000 annual chance of a volcanic eruption at the site

The volcano at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Montana sits atop a huge reserve of molten rock and last erupted 640,000 years ago. It is one of the largest active continental silicic volcanic fields in the world. Silicic is used to describe magma or igneous rock rich in silica. Experts say there is a one in 700,000 annual chance of a volcanic eruption at the site.

This USGS graphic shows how a 'super eruption' of the molten lava under Yellowstone National Park would spread ash across the United States

An in-depth report by HowStuffWorks has revealed the process that would take place if the volcano were to blow. It says that a mixture of magma, rocks, vapour, carbon dioxide and other gases would eventually push out from the ground, creating a dome shape with cracks. The dissolved gases would them explode, releasing the magmaacross the park.

Experts say there is a one in 700,000 annual chance of a volcanic eruption at the site. Pictured is an artist's impression

The eruption, the say, could kill as many as 90,000 people almost instantly and release a 10 ft (3-meter) layer of molten ash 1,000 miles (1,609km) from the park. 'The ash would block off all points of entry from the ground, and the spread of ash and gases into the atmosphere would stop most air travel, just as it did when a much smaller volcano erupted in Iceland in 2010,' the magazine writes. 'Sulphuric gases released from the volcano would spring into the atmosphere and mix with the planet's water vapour. 'The haze of gas that could drape the country wouldn't just dim the sunlight — it also would cool temperatures.'

In my opinion what will set it off is a rocky asteroid 200 meters across striking land within a thousand kilometers of any of the three supervolcanos in the US. After careful consideration, I will remain in place in Northern Alabama.

Man boils to death in Yellowstone acidic pool... Yellowstone Park accident victim dissolved in boiling acidic pool Thu, 17 Nov 2016 - A man who died in a hot spring accident in Yellowstone National Park dissolved, US officials say.
The remains of a man who died in a hot spring accident in Yellowstone National Park were dissolved before they could be recovered, it has emerged. Colin Scott, 23, died in June in an illegal attempt to soak, or "hot pot", in the US park's thermal pools. The accident was recorded by the victim's sister on her mobile phone, the incident report says. The grisly details came to light following a freedom-of-information request by local television news. Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park is located mostly in the state of Wyoming but extends into parts of Montana and Idaho too. 'Very unforgiving' According to the incident report, Mr Scott and his sister, Sable Scott, left the defined boardwalk area in Norris Basin on 7 June. "The whole area is geothermally active," Yellowstone's deputy chief ranger Lorant Veress told KULR 8, which broke the story. "There's a closure in place to protect people from doing that for their own safety. It's a very unforgiving environment." He said the pair had been specifically looking for an area to soak in the thermal springs, despite the potential danger and warning signs. Ms Scott was recording a video of her brother on the phone as he reached down to test the water, before he slipped and fell in.
A view of a hot spring at the Norris Geyser Basin at Yellowstone National Park
Authorities did not share the video, or a description of its contents, out of sensitivity to the family, the report says. Rescue teams later found his body in the pool but abandoned attempts to retrieve it due to the decreasing light available, the danger to themselves and an approaching lightning storm. The following day, workers were unable to find any significant remains in the boiling water. "In a very short order, there was a significant amount of dissolving," Mr Veress said. The area of the park where the accident took place is on the edge of the famous Yellowstone caldera, a "supervolcano" or "hotspot". The caldera's activity fuels the thermal pools in the area and it also has the potential for a "cataclysmic" eruption which would change global climate for decades. However, experts at the US Geological Survey, which carefully monitors the area, say "the chances of this sort of eruption at Yellowstone are exceedingly small in the next few thousands of years." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38018209
