Years ago, when I still had to shave, I bought an old shaving mug with an Old Spice logo. I got it for a quarter at a garage sale. Then I went and bought some Old Spice Shaving Soap. It didn't fit in the mug. I sent Old Spice an email. A month later a woman from Old Spice called my house. My wife, now my ex-wife, answered. The woman said the mug was about sixty years old and their now soap didn't fit the mug. Then she asked my wife, now my ex-wife, what I wanted. "Hell, I don't know. He's crazy." "Would he like a new mug and a years supply of soap?" "Oh, hell, yes." A years supply is only four soaps.

In 1962 the government sent me to San Angelo, Texas. I had some time to kill and went into a barbershop for a shave and a haircut. As the old man cut my hair in noticed his hands trembling. I was trying to think of a way to cancel the shave without hurting his feelings but then he reached for the straight razor to cut around my ears. Amazingly, his trembling hands became steady as a rock when they touched the razor. I got a great shave from the past. Ask for a shave in a barbershop now and see what happens.

Oh, and a lot of the "straight" razors now actually take single-edged razor blade inserts. Not the same thing. I also like fountain pens.

I suspect the ones I saw on the internet are the real deal - they want between $180 and $800 for these razors. Some come with the leather strop.
