    Weightlifting

As I stated in another thread, I have started weightlifting. I really like it so far.

I can bench press 120 pounds. I start out benching 60 pounds 20 times, then 80 pounds 10 times, then 120 pounds five times. That is the way my trainer makes me do all lifts: 20-10-5

I don't know what you call it, but you set the barbells on the floor, lean over and pick it up, then lift it over the head, then back down, and then up again 5 times. I can do 80 pounds with that.

I also do a thing where you bend over at the waist with barbells in each hand, and lift them as high as I can towards my back. I can do 20 pounds with that.

I also put barbells in each hand, while standing straight up, and lift them from my side, with arms straight, until the arms are horizontal. That is soooo hard to do. I do 15 pounds in each 5 times.

I also do (at home) upside-down situps with 10 pounds of weight. I can do a ton of those.

I am not doing any leg strengthening weightlifting as I don't want big thighs, but I run usually three times per week. My legs are strong enough.

I know my weightlifting doesn't compare to the guys, but I am little and am doing the best I can do. I think it is pretty good for being my age.

I would like to hear what other people can do.

    Honestly?

I park my butt in front of my computer, make a promise, just a few posts, forget I thought that, and plant myself till I get hungry.

But you are making me think I need to use my weight lifting machine.

Good luck. I believe you are doing very well.

    My trainer has all barbells.

I don't know. I see soooo many patients my age that if they had just taken care of themselves they wouldn't be in the shape they are in now. I am and always been very particular about how I look. I think a little muscle tone on a woman looks good. But at some point I will have to stop because I don't want to be too musclely.

Just pm me your photos showing off your body, of course and please, your beautiful face, and I shall keep you informed as to your progress and will say if you need to slow down.

Ps, do you have a non offensive Avatar?

Well, I can assure you that fairly big men don't berate the relatively smaller women. Those of us who have been in gyms tend to know the stick points relatively well, for men and women. So, for women, it's rare to see a woman bench 135, in my gym, I've seen one woman rep it once. So, trust me, 120 for a woman is pretty damn good actually. Most women will try 25's on either end of the barbell (95 pounds) and that's all they will do.

The pyramid is the way to go, though the weights selected are a little bizarre, not the weight itself, but it's awkward to get to those specific weights. 60 lbs? I'd have done 65 and had you do the bar with a ten pound plate on either side, which makes 65, add a ten to both sides for the next set to get you to 85.....

to to get to 60 you do a five with a 2.5 on both ends....

    not that it's wrong.....

Tights arms on a female are very attractive, IMO.

Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Thanks... I am not sure what you are saying.

When I get there, I do my stretching and bending and getting warmed up while he prepares the barbells. He has several of them. He knows what I am going to be lifting and he prepares three different barbells. As soon as I do the 20 I move directly on to the 10 and then the five. He wants me to do them one right after the other. He has his own formula on determining the weights to use. I trust his knowledge.

I know one thing: my muscles are dead tired after the 20-10-5. It takes every ounce of strength I have to finish it. When I am finished with the set my muscles look like a weight lifter for a couple of minutes, as if swollen, and then it goes away. I rest for a few minutes while he prepares the next set. I think I might be able to bench more than 120 pounds, but he won't let me. He says I could hurt myself if I try too much.

Does any of this make sense to you, @Newpublius?
