Sen. Chris Murphy slams states that will not expand Medicaid

Sen. Chris Murphy slams states that will not expand Medicaid

By Tom Howell Jr. - The Washington Times Thursday, May 22, 2014

Mr. Murphy, Connecticut Democrat and the Senate’s top cheerleader for Obamacare of late, said millions more Americans could be covered if Republican-led states decided to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

Many GOP governors and state lawmakers have opted not to expand the federal-state entitlement, citing future costs and the program’s inefficiency.

Mr. Murphy's problem must be the poor from GOP states that have opted not to expand the federal-state entitlement, are quite likely loading up the prairie schooners and moving to liberal state whee they can get health care for free. The GOP states that have opted not to expand Medicaid will experience a large cost reduction. The States that have expanded medicaid must pay 10% of the cost themselves. A cost that will be substantial if the poor from neighboring states are migrating en mass for the "free" health care.

I don't know why Murphy is mad, he and his fellow Democrats decided they wanted to take care of the poor, do they NOT want to do that now? All they have to do is raise taxes to pay for it.

That's 10 percent to begin with. Eventually, state taxpayers will have to come up with the full tab.

There just is no limit to the spending and borrowing and wasting and stealing going on in D.C. now.

Even though those states did not expand Medicaid they still had over 4 million people that were previously eligible prior to the ACA that enrolled. These states will still have to pay in additional cost for these enrollees under the old system.

If my state refused to expand Medicaid out of spite I would be furious.

That's about 160,000 per state not expanding Medicaid. Their cost will further be reduced by the other government services no longer needed by the folks departing for free health care in another state.

What makes you think it's more out of spite and less out of fiscal responsibility to the people that are paying the taxes to finance it?
