I know many evangelicals myself who simply feel committed to defend the Jewish people. There is no apolcalyptic. expectation. They are probably the overwhelmingly majority. Pol describes a kook fringe.

This religious meaning is often transferred to denote overall highly unacceptable, arrogant and insulting behaviour that confronts ethical norms in a way that reminds one of the act described in Ancient Tragedies (like Oedipus).
Hubris is usually perceived as a characteristic of an individual rather than a group, although the group the offender belongs to may suffer consequences from the wrongful act. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence, accomplishments or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it is in a position of power.
Which group are you directing this towards?

Oh, and Jews don't like evangelicals because Jews live in mortal fear of the largely (indeed, entirely) imaginary threat of the theocracy evangelicals supposedly desire.

I do. In any case, we both find it odd that evangelicals passionately support a population that, quite frankly, despises them in return.

I don't know about despises them. None of my Jewish friends despise them. Frankly they don't even think about them. I think most secular Jews and atheists like me just think they're a bit nuts. The same way all Jewish people I know think the Haredi are nuts...well, because they are. All zealots are IMO.

There's a small group here in San Antone headed up by Hagee who does that. But it is a small group.

Evangelicals aren't zealots. You seem to have a fondness for this term and consequently you often abuse it.

a person who is fanatical and uncompromising in pursuit of their religious, political, or other ideals

There are tens of millions of evangelicals in the US.

Anyway, the poll seems to show a very low Jewish opinion of evangelicals and a high evangelical opinion of Jews. Surely, both parties give some thought to each other.
